This is part of the most peaceful area of Arran, the village of Kildonan has a small village store and post office and is near to some fantastic beaches, with huge sandy bays and interesting rock pools.
Kildonan lies a short distance off the main road overlooking the small island of Pladda. On a clear day looking out to sea, you can see the mountainous island, Ailsa Craig and even the coast of Ireland, as well as Sanda Island off Kintyre, known locally as Spoon Island because looks like a spoon lying in the water.
There are many good walks in the area and especially near the coastline where you will generally see large colonies of grey seal. There is a path to the promontory with views of rapids and leaping salmon in the summer.
The ruined Kildonan Castle was once used as a hunting seat of the Scottish Kings when Arran was the property of the Crown.
