Surrounding area: Rousay: smaller island separate from Orkney's mainland. Regular ferry service takes people to and from Rousay to the mainland. Kirkwall and Stromness, Orkney's main towns, are each about fifteen minutes' drive away from Tingwall from which the ferry service to Rousay operates. Rousay is the largest of the surrounding islands, with a road running right round the island, and has lots of archaeological sites and beautiful cliff-side and sea views. The cottages in particular offer wonderful views of the sea and lights from Kirkwall can be seen in the evening.
