A relaxing, friendly and refreshingly different base in the Cairngorm National Park with a genuine welcome for all. Since opening in 2005, Schoolhouse has earned a reputation as a place to stay and eat. The 3 spacious bedrooms can be used in double, twin or family formats. The family rooms can sleep up to 4 children. All bedrooms have ensuite or private bathrooms with wonderful showers. With maple and bamboo flooring, Schoolhouse is exceptionally clean. All rooms have unique features, all are beautiful and spacious. The lounge has enormous sofas and an open fire, the bright dining room a wood burning stove and coffee point. All rooms have traditional cast iron radiators and guests can relax or enjoy a BBQ in the large, attractive garden. Owners Alan and Cathy Low are well travelled but have excellent local knowledge. A good range of books, local information and maps is on hand. Cathy is a well known professional storyteller and guests are often treated to bedtime stories. A range of story services are available, from guided walks to uniquely crafted stories which weave details supplied by guests into personal stories. Storytelling often provides the highlight of a holiday and is always memorable. As Alan and Cathy are English teachers, non- English speaking guests are often delighted to receive impromptu English classes. French and German are also spoken.

Surrounded by mountains, rivers and forest there are is a wealth of top quality outdoor activities and tuition available. Ballater golf course is at the bottom of the road and the bustling village of Ballater hasan interesting selection of shops, restaurants and pubs. Balmoral, the holiday home of the British royal family since Victorian times is 7 miles away.
