Surrounding area: The name Twatt originates from the Old Norse veit meaning 'small parcel of land'. It is a small settlement with a population of around 45 and a history in crofting. As time passed and crofting became less profitable the settlement has supplemented its income through varying means and is now home to an agricultural contractor, a construction firm and a salmon farm. The chalets are surrounded by many of Shetland's most popular trout fishing lochs as well as some of the most beautiful rolling hills, great for walking. Even on days where the weather makes outdoor activities difficult the Aith Leisure Centre is just 2 miles away and has a sports hall, fitness suite, squash courts, swimming pool, and health suite. The area is also popular with rowing and sailing regattas with ones held in Aith, Skeld and Reawick during the summer. This holiday rewards nature lovers with a guaranteed sight of an abundance of wildlife. Around the coast particularly there is always a wide variety of seabirds and many seals; both of the common and grey variety. Patience may be rewarded with a glimpse of one of nature's most playful creatures - the otter. While in Shetland the weather is always a very important topic of conversation - as it changes frequently. Visitors are advised to bring warm waterproof clothing even for a summer visit. However, do not let the threat of extreme weather put you off - wind and waves only serve to dramatise this unique land. The chalets are situated around 1 mile from Bixter which has a shop, post office, bus stop, doctor's surgery, vet and a garage
