Aviemore is situated in the heart of the Cairngorms National Park. Cairngorms translates to Blue Mountain as apparently the summit of the Cairngorms looks blue from a distance. Being a Munro, Cairn Gorm is 4084 feet / 1245 metres high, the plateau being made of pink granite.
