About National Bike Week: Cyclists from Ayrshire and further a field will be enjoying a bike ride around the beautiful Isle of Arran on Sunday the 25th of June as part of the annual Bike Week celebrations (17th-25th of June). The entire circuit of the island is 57 miles and follows remote coastlines with views of rugged mountain scenery with lots of great places to stop and eat along the way. Cyclists looking for a shorter challenge can try the North End Loop (32 miles) or the South End Loop (25 miles). The most accessible of the Scottish islands, Arran lies 15 miles off the Ayrshire Coast, 1 hour from Glasgow. There is a regular ferry service from Ardrossan Harbour making it easy to come over for a day trip. The event starts and finishes at the Arran Adventure Company in Brodick and your £5 entry fee gets you minibus back up with a mechanic on board for the day. The Adventure Company will also be offering free Dr Bike cycle MOTs for the duration of Bike Week. Lucy Gibbons from the Arran Adventure Company says Bike week is all about getting on your bike and having fun. Last year the bike ride around the island was very popular. Our youngest cyclist to take part was 11 years old and our eldest was 74! Bike week is still a few weeks away so there is time left to get fit?
