Surrounding area: Fraserburgh Golf Club, claims it's foundation year as 1881, but like so many Scottish communities it can trace it's association with golf much further back in time.
The 1613 records of the Parish Kirk Session note a youth named John Burnett was ordered to be sent to "The Maister`s Stool for correction for playing golf on Sunday instead of going to the church". Golf was definitely played on an organised basis in the 18th century "The Buchan Golf Club", started up in Fraserburgh in 1779, meeting every third Tuesday during the season. (Aberdeen Journal 18th April 1779).
In 1780 the Club was retitled "Fraserburgh Golf Club" with as it`s secretary, John Dalrymple, one of the earlier members of a family distinguished as shipbuilders, shipowners and shipmasters in the town for the next hundred years. (Aberdeen Journal 19th July 1780).
While playing Fraserburgh, it is worth while stopping at the 3rd tee on the top of Corbie Hill, to take in the view of the town, the harbour, over the North Sea up to the fishing village of Inverallochy and inland over the Buchan plains (The word Buchan meaning cattle country) and on to Mormond Hill.
Additional notes: Please come and visit our course, an excellent challenge for the links player.
One point worth noting is that on the majority of holes, the trouble lies through the green, playing short is certainly the safest way round the course.
A very warm welcome awaits you from the staff and members at Fraserburgh, which is commonly regarded as a fine course and a very friendly Club.
