The story of Jute and the story of Dundee are inseparable. The industry employed 50,000 people in the city at its peak and supplied much of the world's demand for Jute goods.
Verdant Works takes you on a tour of the trade, from its beginnings in the Indian sub-continent to the end product in all its myriad forms. Experience how the people of Dundee really lived over 100 years ago -rich and poor, young and old, at work and play. Get a real insight into their lives, learn how they coped in an era of dramatic change and experience a bygone age.
Absorb the sights, sound and smells of the machine room sense the earth tremble as the original machines roar into life. Feel what it was like to work here a century ago, and hear the worker's tales as they confide their secrets and tell you their hopes, dreams, and fears.
With a stunning range of displays including film shows, interactive computers and original machinery lovingly restored to working condition, Verdant Works brings history to life with an experience you will never forget.
