This 16th century tower house's turbulent history started in 1571 when Edom o' Gordon burned the castle killing the occupying family of Alexander Forbes. Following the defeat of the Jacobite uprising, the castle was converted into barracks for government troops in 1748 with a typical star shaped outer wall. There are good explanatory displays and a gift shop.
