The Trust's primary aim is to tell the story of Grantown and the rich heritage of the surrounding area from 1765 to the present day.
The Trust was founded in 1987 with the aim of establishing a community based heritage centre in Grantown-on-Spey. In 1988 it was granted charitable status. The search for suitable permanent premises resulted in 1995 with the purchase of Burnfield House. A former school building, it is ideally situated close to the Town Square and has ample car parking.
Burnfield is now the headquarters for the Trust and is currently undergoing a complete refurbishment made possible by local fund raising, grants and a substantial contribution from the National Heritage Lottery Fund.
An exhibition using the latest audio-visual presentation techniques, and an archive jointly run with the Grantown Society will house a rich collection of local records pertaining to maps, genealogy, agriculture and local history.
It has been an exciting year in which we have watched Burnfield being transformed. There are still several jobs to be done but this week the permanent exhibition is being installed and we are now scheduled to open the Museum on Saturday 17th April, just two weeks after our original planned date of opening. A small ceremony of cutting a ribbon at the entrance will take place that morning and the museum will be fully open to the public on Tuesday 20 April.
Burnfield House will become a general meeting place for the community and tourists, able to answer enquiries on a large range of subjects. The Grantown Resource Centre located in Burnfield House allows access to computers and the Internet.
