The traditional hiding place of the second Marquis of Huntly, Lord Lewis Gordon, when pursued by the Earl of Argyll is about 3.5 miles from Grantown on the Forres road. The cave, or what remains of it, is amid rugged crags on the steep side of the glen. The Marquis married Mary Grant in 1644, sister of James 7th Laird of Grant. She is supposed to have given him aid in the cave while in hiding.
