Overlooking the Deveron Valley, just north of the town of Huntly the Bin Forest offers walkers a variety of forest experiences with four waymarked trails and a viewpoint loop.
This is very much a working forest where ongoing harvesting operations supply logs to local sawmills and replanting of the felled area takes place very shortly after the trees have been removed.
These operations create a wide range of habitats with young trees over 60 years old.
This variation in age, open space and tree species is very attractive to wildlife.
The Bin Forest was first planted in 1840, then felled and replanted again in the 1920's.
The third generation of trees to be planted by hand is now taking place.
