North Berwick is a lovely seaside town located in East Lothian, Scotland, about 25 miles to the east of Edinburgh. It is well known as a terrific location for a holiday thanks to its beauty, attractions, and convenient location.
Attractions and activities for every taste
All it takes is a quick glance around the town of North Berwick to appreciate the variety of attractions and activities available there. Whether your taste runs from exploring the seashore to endless days of golf to exploring historic sites and scenery, North Berwick is truly one of the best holiday destinations you could consider.

A number of the Islands of the Forth are located quite close to North Berwick and in fact are visible from various points in and around the town. Bass Rock, Fidra, Craigleith, and The Lamb are just a few of the most notable of these islands; even better, if you want to do more than just view them from afar there are a number of boat trips available to take you right out to them. One that is particularly popular is Bass Rock, thanks to the huge colonies of birds nesting there, such as gannets, puffins, and a whole host of other seabirds. You can enjoy seeing them up close via boat or if you prefer to stay in North Berwick you can learn all about them at the Scottish Seabird Visitor Centre.
Golf, of course, is a huge favorite of holiday vacationers and North Berwick offers plenty of choices for all skill levels. Choose from the West Links, the Glen, or one of the numerous other golf courses situated nearby. Or if you don't want to play a full round of golf stop by one of the two excellent 18 hole putting greens in town. You can even spend a few hours following the Golfing Heritage Trail that meanders through North Berwick.
For those interested in historic places, take a few hours to explore Tantallon Castle, located about 3 miles just to the east of North Berwick. This 14th century fortress is now mostly in ruins, but thanks to the careful preservation of Historic Scotland visitors can still experience the grand size and layout of the original castle. There is also a wonderful volcanic hill that rises above North Berwick; known as North Berwick Law, it was a major signal station during the Napoleonic era.
If you want an extra special seaside treat, head just east of town to Seacliff. This is a private estate and beach that remains wild and unspoiled. There is a small admission charge to access Seacliff, but it is well worth it to experience the beauty of this place.
It's easy to see, then, why North Berwick is such a popular holiday destination. Make plans now to visit this lovely town and you certainly will not be sorry!
