The AA
The Automobile Association (AA) make the following awards for HOTELS
Small, simple, more personal; mostly managed by proprietor.
Small-medium sized; more facilities, eg possibly TV, Telephone in bedroom; 50% en-suite.
Medium-sized and more spacious accommodation; generally full reception service, formal restaurant and bar service; 100% en-suite, most with bath.
Larger hotels; possibly with private suites; normally room service, reception, porter, etc; en-suite usually has bath and shower.
Large luxury hotels; highest international standards.
The AA rosette awards are awarded for the quality of food served in restaurants and hotel restaurants.
50% - 85% awarded in addition to Stars to differentiate in terms of Hospitality, Service, Bedrooms, Cleanliness, Food, Public areas and Overall concept.
to These Red Stars are awarded to consistently outstanding establishments in terms of Hospitality, Service, Food and Comfort instead of percentages.
to These Red Rosettes are awarded to denote quality of food and wine.
The AA make the following awards for Bed and Breakfast (B&Bs)
Standard Quality: Simple accommodation with adequate bathroom facilities.
Standard Quality: Sound standard of accommodation offering higher standards in terms of decor and comfort; likely to have some bedrooms with en suite bath or shower rooms.
Good Quality: Well appointed accommodation with wider range of facilities; en-suite facilities may be provided.
High Quality: Well appointed, comfortable accommodation; high on quality and facilities, with additional emphasis on hospitality; good proportion of en-suite.
Outstanding Quality: Outstanding level of accommodation and service, with emphasis on quality, facilities and friendly and hospitable atmosphere. High quality food and the majority of the bedrooms will have en-suite facilities.

The RAC
The Royal Automobile Club (RAC) makes the following Awards for Hotels,
Guest Houses and Bed & Breakfast Establishments
Listed: Minimum standards of facilities in public areas and bedrooms.
Acclaimed: Higher standards than Listed with 50% en-suite with either bath/WC or shower/WC.
Highly Acclaimed: Higher standards again. Spacious & luxurious bedrooms, colour TV & radio, hospitality tray, etc;100% en-suite with bath/WC or shower/WC; lounge.
*****************************
Small, simple and informal with a good range of services; 25% should have en-suite facilities.
Larger; offers lounge service to guests; open to non-residents for meals; higher accomodation standards; usually 50% en-suite.
Small luxury/larger, well appointed hotels; some room service; all en-suite, most with a bath.
Larger hotels; reception, porters, room service all hours; staff highly trained; en-suite (100%) has bath, shower & WC; suites; conference facilities, banqueting & recreation facilities expected.
Large; luxurious; highest international standards in all areas.
