Right at the mouth of the river stands the aptly named Spey Bay, a small village with its own golf course. Bird watchers will be in their element as the African migrant bird of prey, the osprey, comes to Spey Bay to take advantage of the rich pickings offered by the river. It is a common and quite remarkable site to see the bird fishing and catching fish you would think are far too big to fly away with.
The River Spey is famous for its salmon and the ospreys are not the only ones to take advantage of the waters, it is an ideal river for fly fishing. Tugnet Ice House was built in 1850 is now a museum which tells the story of the ship building and salmon industries. Moray Wildlife Exhibition Centre is also worth a visit.
There you can find out about the wildlife that find home in the Moray Firth, including the resident bottle nose dolphins. It is not uncommon to catch a glimpse of these beautiful creatures.
