Ullapool Travel Guide - Scotland

Nestled on the shores of Lochbroom, Ullapool is the most populated town in the Northwest of Scotland. It is the perfect base to choose if you want to visit the Hebridean Islands because the ferry runs from Ullapool to many of these places. This is a picturesque fishing village where the beauty of nature will astound you in all directions.

There is a wide range of activities that will delight all visitors to Ullapool. You can fish along the loch or from the pier as you watch the seals sunning themselves on the rocks. Hike up Ullapool Hill for the most stunning view of the village and beyond. It will take you about two hours to climb this hill as will a climb of Stac Pollaidh. This mountain is 1800 feet high but the view from the top is worth the effort. You will be able to see out over Inverpolly Nature Reserve.

The Ullapool Leisure Centre is the focal point for indoor activities in the village. Here you will find the swimming pool as well as tennis courts and indoor facilities for ball hockey and bowling. There are three golf courses in the area for those who like to tee off on vacation in addition to the 9–hole course in Ullapool.

Just 7 miles south of Ullapool, you can visit the Lael Forest Garden with its unusual shrubs and plants and just 12 miles east will take you to the spectacular Corrieshalloch Gorge. Visit the nearby villages and take in the beauty of the Highlands.

Ullapool has many types of accommodations for you to choose from, whether you prefer self–catering cottages or the amenities of a hotel. Stroll through the village and drop into the stores where you are sure to find some delightful souvenir of your visit.
