Rosyth Travel Guide - Scotland

Just north-west of Edinburgh is the dock town of Rosyth on the Firth of Forth, a garden community straddling a city–sized expanse of shipyard infrastructure with sections dating back to 1909. The naval dockyards have been in continuous service since the Great War, managed privately in the 21st century by Babcock International as a nuclear submarine maintenance and refit facility. Decommissioning of the submarine facility is expected to be complete by 2010, which will make acres of reclaimed land available for future residential and commercial development.

Rosyth is the only Scottish port to offer direct ferry access to mainland Europe, connecting at Zeebrugge, Belgium. Redevelopments currently underway expect to open opportunities for a more diverse ferry service to other European ports as well as landings along the British coast.

The town proper also boasts the magnificent architecture of the former Anglican Church of St. Margaret (built 1969), a modern leisure and community centre, and library. Proximity to the M90 motorway and surges of new residential development over the past few years mean Rosyth will continue to blossom into a larger economic centre in the decades to come.
