Roeberry House:
Roeberry House is one of the best known Victorian houses in Orkney, and was home to the Lord Lieutenant in the 1990s. Known locally as "The Castle" it sits in four acres of walled gardens on a rise above the silver sandy beach of the Sands of Wright, 2 miles out of St Margaret's Hope, 25 minutes drive from Kirkwall, across the four short causeways of the Churchill Barriers.
The guest accommodation is up its own private stairway with own galley kitchen with microwave and electric grill, tea/coffee and snacks and your own access.
Spacious ensuite bedrooms (kingsize, double, twin and single) both upstairs and downstairs. Breakfast is served in the dining room in the main house.
We buy organic and local products for both our family and guests and serve our own organic free range eggs. Breakfast will be freshly cooked to every guest's taste. Continental buffet. St Margaret's Hope has the Gills Bay-Orkney ferry terminal (Pentland Ferries), the shortest car ferry crossing from Scottish Mainland. It also has an excellent pub, shops, a gallery, a tennis court, a golf course, a gym and Orkney's best restaurant, "The Creel" which has again been voted one of the 100 best restaurants in Britain 2008.
There are three beaches within walking distance of the house. The closest, "The Sands of Wrights", is only 5 minutes away. Great walks over open countryside towards Hoxa and St Margaret's Hope overlooking Scapa Flow.
