Elgin Cathedral: These magnificent ruins are the remains of what was possibly the most beautiful cathedral in Scotland. It was founded in 1224 and was known as 'The Lantern of the North'. In 1390, the 'Wolfe of Badenoch' set light to the Cathedral in one of his many 'crusades'. It was later modified but fell into ruin after the reformation. There are numerous interesting features including the octagonal chapter house and a Pictish slab. Good explanatory displays and a gift shop. Disabled access.
