Augusta's aim is to promote foreign tourism especially for groups (maximum 10) for custom and tailor-made holidays for cruising, wildlife watching, trekking, cycling, horse riding, castle, gardens, historical and landscape sightseeing in the Highlands and all over Scotland.

Fort Augustus has been named after the old military barracks that were blown up by Bonnie Prince Charlie's Highlanders in 1746. The original name of the village was Cill Chuimein. Running through the village is the river Oich and the impressive Caledonian Canal and lock system, built by Thomas Telford in the early 1800s.
