If you are looking for a lovely small wayside in Scotland, look no further than Glenshee. This wonderful little glen is a gateway for a huge range of activities and spectacular adventures to be had nearby.
A scenic glen near to many adventures
Glenshee is located in the eastern part of Perth and Kinross in Scotland, a small village loaded with plenty of gorgeous scenery and Scottish charm. The Shee Water flows through Glenshee, creating some excellent river landscapes and attracting some of Scotland's most interesting wildlife along the way. Shee Water begins at the north end of Glenshee, formed by the confluence of the Allt a'Ghlinne Bhig, Allt Ghlinn Thaitneach and Glen Lochsie Burn as well as many streams that are smaller. Together they meet at the Spittal of Glenshee where the Shee Water officially begins.
The Spittal of Glenshee has traditionally been home to a small village acting as a gateway to the rest of Glenshee and it continues to serve this purpose in modern times as well. Visitors can find small inns and hostels in the village, offering them traditional accommodations while putting them in a great position to trek out on adventures elsewhere in the region.
Winter sports in Glenshee
Glenshee is well known for being home to numerous excellent winter sports activities, thanks to its highland location in eastern Perth and Kinross. One of the best known places to enjoy winter sport in the area is the Glenshee Ski Centre, which is Scotland's large ski resort. Glenshee Ski Centre boasts 36 ski runs, 21 ski lifts, and includes snowmaking capabilities to ensure there is always plenty of good snow for enjoying skiing activities.
A unique aspect of Glenshee Ski Centre is that it is actually built so it straddles the A93 road, dividing it into two sides (eastern and western). The western side is dominated by a large bowl terrain that includes both Carn Aosda and Cairnwell mountains. The eastern side extends to two other nearby mountains, Glas Maol and Meall Odhar.
Whether you are brand new to winter sports, have an intermediate skill level, or can ski like and expert, Glenshee Ski Centre has plenty of great terrain to offer. It is one of the reasons why Glenshee itself is such a fun and interesting place to visit.
