Internationally famous for its fine quality knitwear, Hawick has many specialist shops and textile production can be viewed at Peter Scotts and Wrights of Trowmill.
Drumlanrig's Tower, in the main street, has a dark and intriguing history as a stronghold of cross-border warfare from the Middle Ages. Wilton Lodge Park, on the wooded banks of the River Teviot extends to over 107 acres with picnic tables, recreational facilities and a walled garden with special feature floral displays. A statue commemorates the life of Jimmy Guthrie, ace TT rider and world champion of the 1930s. Hawick Museum and Scott Gallery reflect the town's history and regularly play host to visiting exhibitions. Common Ridings are held in early June, which commemorates Hawick "Lads" having defeated a body of English soldiers in 1514 and capturing their banner. Annual events include a Summer Festival and Jazz Festival.
