The Kingdom of Fife
St Andrews
, the focal point of the world, is the Home of Golf encompassed by the spiritual, cultural and ancient
Kingdom of Fife
. This is where the game's laws and conventions, which are still applied to this day, were conjured up in the very beginning.
It is a cherished ambition for many golfers to play in Fife and join the long list who have played here since the very beginning. There are over 40 courses in the area, surprisingly only 14 of them are links courses, the most famous being the magical Old Course, a remarkable example of golfing architecture in itself although it must be said that it can frustrate even the calmest of golfers.
Golf is meant to be challenging and those who designed the course all those years ago certainly knew what they were doing, especially if their aim was to show up the pretenders from the quietly confident.
There are plenty of less well known but quality courses scattered along the coast beside ancient villages in picturesque settings, traditional courses by the seaside that are supremely challenging with winding fairways along golden, sandy bays and rocky outcrops.
The Scottish Golf Union is headquartered here and has both indoor and outdoor facilities to make sure that you can practise in all weathers.
In the Kingdom of Fife you will find courses with dense gorse, heather fringed fairways, stunning parkland, a contrast of modern and ancient layouts and varying challenges to suit all standards, all with panoramic views.
