The village of Craobh Haven does not have a very long history as compared to other Scottish villages. The community was established in 1993 to help alleviate the housing problems of Argyll. There are only about 30 houses here nestled on the north shore of the Craignish Peninsula. The village is across from Shuna Island on the scenic west coast of Scotland. The village is easy to find, as it is only 20 miles south of Oban, about halfway to Lochgilphead. If you are driving from Glasgow, you simply take the A82 and A83 to take you right into Craobh Haven. The inshore islands just off Craobh Haven provide excellent shelter for the yacht marina here. From the shore you have a panoramic view of the islands, which include Shuna, Shiel and Lung, as well as Jura in the South. You can also see the Highlands of Mull. This village is the ideal destination to choose if you want to escape the traffic and the crowds of the city for your vacation. The people that live here are very friendly and well used to visitors all during the year.
There are three shops, a restaurant and a pub in Craobh Haven. The village is also quite close to Ardfern, if you get a craving for the sights and sounds of more people. However, you will find that there are so many things to do when you are in this village that you won't have time to think about other places. At the Ardfern Riding Centre just a short distance from Craobh Haven, you can enjoy Western riding and trekking on Appaloosa horses. You can also take a boat trip out to the islands to get a stunning view of these scenic beauties.
There is an amazing wealth of bird and wildlife in this area. Naturalists and birdwatchers make a trip to Craobh Haven several times a year just for the purpose of seeing and photographing the nesting birds and the animals in their natural habitats. There are spectacular walks that will take you through the countryside or if you rent a cottage, you may be content just to sit on your doorstep and take in the view.
