Even though the railway no longer runs through this village, Lochearnhead is a very popular tourist destination. The remains of the railway make a very nice walking trail. It is located in a picturesque location at the foot of Glen Ogle along the western edge of Loch Earn. Lochearnhead today does not reflect its turbulent history in its ambiance of peace and serenity. It has been the scene of bloody battles between the various Scottish clans. Lochearnhead is the favourite vacation destination for those who like leisurely activities. Loch Earn offers the opportunity for many types of water sports, such as fishing, water-skiing, boating, sailing and canoeing. Scuba diving is also very popular with those who want to explore all of Scotland, what’s on the land and what’s under the waters. Loch Earn rarely freezes over in winter. In fact, the only record of that ever happening was during the winter of 1894/5, when the residents of Lochearnhead took advantage of the ice to have a huge curling bonspiel.
