Temporary photograph of a Scottish Thistle till we obtain a picture of Lochgoilhead If you are looking for a small village in which you can spend a relaxing vacation, why not consider Lochgoilhead as your next destination. This is a small village of about 400 people, which is located at the head of Loch Goil. It is a very photogenic community, which is surrounded by mountains, some of which rise as high as 3000 feet. The single-track road through this region passes through Lochgoilhead, so you won’t have any problem driving there.

The peace and tranquility of Lochgoilhead are unmatched anywhere else in Scotland. Many people might dismiss such a small village as a tourist destination, but the opposite is actually true. Some of the activities that you can enjoy here are canoeing and sailing because the Loch is so sheltered. The Scouting Organization operates a residential outdoor centre here as well.

Lochgoilhead has a holiday village complete with a leisure centre where you can enjoy great swimming and even ice-skating. You can tee off at the golf course and because this is a small village, you can easily walk around at your own pace and chat with the local people. Like all villages, it has a pub and there are also restaurants and accommodations where you are assured of a good meal and a comfortable bed. There are accommodations to suit every taste and budget. Stay in a hotel or a guesthouse or choose to cook for yourself in a self-catering cottage. The Caravan Park is ideal for setting up your tent or RV and experiencing what Lochgoilhead has to offer.

Visit the ancient church that was built in the 1700’s and the ruins of a castle that was built in the 1200’s. You can easily explore the surrounding countryside and enjoy walks in the foothills. If you are more adventurous, a visit to Lochgoilhead could be a mountain climbing expedition for you. Visit Castle Carrick, which dates back to the 15th century and imagine yourself living here 500 years ago.

It is the scenery and the wealth of outdoor activities that attracts tourists to this area. It is an excellent base for touring the many towns and villages of Argyll, such as Inveraray, Oban and Dunoon. You don’t need to use your car while you are here because you will want to be out and about. The people are so friendly that they will treat you like a long lost cousin and take you into their fold. Join in the party and fun with the music and dancing in the pubs because in Lochgoilhead, no one is a stranger for very long.
