Tighnabruaich If you are looking for a place off the beaten path for your next vacation, then Tighnabruaich is the place for you. This is a resort village is located on the western shores of the Kyle of Bute and was developed during the 19th century with pier and marina villas. Today, Tighnabruaich is popular for sailing and yachting and with the spectacular scenery; it is one place where you can have a relaxing and refreshing holiday.

Whatever time of the year you decide to visit, you will find something appealing here. For the avid outdoors person, Tighnabruaich offers sailing, canoeing, and kayaking in the line of watersports. Golfers will delight in the 9-hole course of the Kyle of Bute, set in the hills about two miles from the village and for fishermen, there are three trout ponds in the hills above. These are controlled by the local angling club that keeps them well stocked.

Enjoy a game of shinty, which some define playing hockey minus the rules. However, there are rules although some players do get hurt. There is also an exercise facility with a football pitch and a lighted tennis court. Walkers enjoy walking around the village and through the hills. You do have to bring a good pair of shoes and strong legs to climb some of the hills, but the view from the top makes it all worthwhile. The Waverly Paddle Steamer makes regular stops here twice a week.

The village, although it is a tourist resort, is not crowded. It exudes a tranquil atmosphere with its unhurried pace, where everyone has time to stop and chat. Stay at the Royal or the Kames Hotel where you will be treated like royalty. The Kilfinan is famous for its gourmet food. You can stay all night or just drop in for a meal or a beer.
