River Stinchar The village of Ballantrae is located in South Ayrshire on the A77 road between Girvan and Stranraer. If you are looking to spend a holiday in a quiet rural location, then this is the ideal place for you. This section of the southern uplands of Scotland is one of the most scenic and unspoiled areas of the country. Walk the hills covered in heather and look out to the coast across to Ailsa Craig, Arran and Northern Ireland.

Ballantrae is situated at the mouth of River Stinchar and was once a very important fishing village. The picturesque harbour is still used by fishermen who fish for lobster and crab, but it is not as busy as it used to be. In the village you will find a general store, a doctor’s surgery, a pub, post office and a public tennis courts.

Ballantrae When you come to Ballantrae you can be sure of receiving a warm welcome from the people that live here. This area is perfect for a family holiday and is rich in history. Culzean Castle is just one of the castles in the area that you can visit and step back to the time of the battles between the clans. Spend time in the great outdoors with the many opportunities that Ballantrae presents for walking. You can enjoy hillwalking or just strolling along the sandy beaches or the riverside paths where you are sure to glimpse some of the wildlife that live here.

If you come to Ballantrae in the spring, you will immediately notice the beautiful gardens in bloom. The blooming rhododendrons and azaleas will dazzle you and present the most breathtaking backgrounds for your photos. As the village is located on the coast, you are also in the prime region for some serious bird watching with the many species that nest in the cliffs.

River Stinchar The Ballantrae area is famous for its golf courses, so the avid golfer will certainly want to make plans to visit this area. The championship courses at Turnberry and Troon are only a short distance away as well as several local courses where you can spend an enjoyable day on the course.

The wealth of accommodations available in Ballantrae is astounding for the size of the village. Here you will be comfortable, whether you choose to stay a night or a week. You will have such a delightful and restful vacation that you will surely make plans to return.
