Isle of Arran The name Brodick comes from the Norse words, meaning "broad bay". Brodick is the main village on Arran, although Lamlash is historically the provincial town of the island.

It is set amid a swathe of glens and mountains and the peaks of Cir Mhor and Goatfell offer a wonderful panorama of the island. They are popular destinations for walkers and nature lovers.

The sandy beach stretches across the mouth of Glen Rosa to the imposing 13th century Brodick Castle, which is now owned by the National Trust for Scotland. It was once the seat of Dukes of Hamilton. Features worth noting are the fine plaster ceilings, furniture, porcelain and paintings. The grounds include a formal garden, dating back to 1710, a Victorian rose garden and nature trail. The 18-hole golf course, new sports facilities, visitor centres and extensive shopping facilities add to the appeal of this small village, with plenty of accommodation to suit.
