Turnberry Lighthouse The birthplace of Robert the Bruce, Turnberry is now a coveted golf destination with its championship course. Located on the Irish Sea and the Firth of Clyde it is truly one of the most beautiful places in Scotland. The ruins of the home of Robert the Bruce, Ailsa Craig, is a massive structure that attracts many tourists, especially those interested in Scottish history.

The town was used as a landing site for the Allied Forces during the Second World War and the fairways were the landing strips that the pilots used. Today, Turnberry is called the "Pebble Beach of the British Isles" and the golf course is the most scenic course in the country. On a clear day, you can see Ireland in the distance.

View from Turnberry Links Estate The golf course itself was built in 1909, but it had to be rebuilt after both World Wars. Mackenzie Ross did the latest rebuilding in the 1950's but additions have been made since that time. Today the Ailsa and Arran Courses are known all over the world. The Ailsa Course ranks among the top 20 in the world and is slated to be the site of the 2007 British Open. During the years many famous golfers, such as Jack Nicklaus and Greg Norman, have teed off here and were delighted with the level of play.

Just a short distance away from Turnberry, you will find the ruins of Crossraguel Abbey. This abbey dates back to the 13th century and at one time there was a great standing cross, called the Cross of Riaghill, located nearby. Culzean Castle is one of the country’s leading tourist destinations. The Castle presents an imposing presence on the top of the hill overlooking the Firth of Clyde. The land is associated with the Kennedy family and a room in the Castle is dedicated to Dwight D. Eisenhower to commemorate his links with Scotland. The whole area is Scotland’s first country park.

View of the Ailsa Craig from Turnberry Less than an hour away from Glasgow, Turnberry is a popular stop for most tourists that use Glasgow as their base. In addition, the Turnberry Links Estate offers Luxury self-catering, fully serviced, holiday apartments providing an extremely high standard of holiday accommodation, in a development adjacent to Turnberry's famous Ailsa Course, and one of Scotland's finest golf and leisure complexes.

Westin Turnberry Resort hotel offers luxurious accommodations with 221 rooms and 12 cottages. The view from the resort is nothing short of spectacular.

Malin Court also offers elegant accommodations and panoramic views of the surrounding countryside. When you want some other form of entertainment to take your mind off golf, the staff here can arrange for you to engage in sailing, fishing, hunting and of course there are many walking trails for you to enjoy the flora and fauna of the area.
