St Boswells Travel Guide

Temporary photograph of a Scottish Thistle till we obtain a picture of St Boswells St Boswells is 4 miles South of Melrose, is a village with a spacious tree-lined green and nearby Mertoun offers 20 acres of scenic gardens. Dryburgh Abbey (12th century) lies in a peaceful setting by the River Tweed and a woodland walk leads to the massive 22-foot high sandstone statue of William Wallace. Not far from the statue is the Borders' most famous viewpoint - 'Scott's view' which affords a beautiful panorama across the River Tweed to the Eildon Hills and the central Borders.

Sir Walter Scott made a habit of stopping here to enjoy the view whenever he passed this way in his coach. It is well known that his horses automatically halted at this point when taking their master to his final resting-place at Dryburgh Abbey.
