Temporary photograph of a Scottish Thistle till we obtain a picture of Burntisland Located in the Kingdom of Fife on the Firth of Forth, Burntisland is a town with a history dating back about 4000 years. It has a population of about 6000 people and is very popular with tourists either as a vacation destination or for a day trip to the beach. The annual fair in the summer draws crowds of visitors as do the Highland Games, the crowning of the Summer Queen and the Civic Parade. There is an 18-hole golf course here as well as a leisure centre where you can continue with your fitness routine while on holiday.

Both the A909 and the A921 will take you to Burntisland from the A92. It also has a train station and is on the main East Coast Rail Network. The area is known for its sandy beaches and as the site of the 15th century Rossend Castle. Queen Mary often spent time at this castle and when she was imprisoned the people here were dispossessed of their lands.

History buffs will really delight in the sight of the rock carvings left behind by the ancient peoples on the Binn just outside Burntisland. There is evidence that the Romans had a fort here in the 1st century and a castle was built here in 1119. The settlement here was large enough by 1130 to warrant King David to grant a church. The community of Burntisland developed as a seaport and shipbuilding developed as a major industry in the town.

When you visit Burntisland during the summer, you can learn about the fascinating history of the town by taking a guided walk. Visit the War Memorial and see the names of the people from this town that lost their lives in the First and Second World Wars. The Museum of Communication to find out about how the new communications have improved the life of the people in this part of Scotland as they have all over the world. The Highland Games that take place here have the distinction of being the second oldest in the country. Visit the Kirk and take the steps leading to the Sailor’s Loft at the rear.

The community of Burntisland depends heavily on tourism for its economy. There are 3 caravan parks as well as cottages and bed and breakfast establishments for you accommodation. The delightful farmland in this area provides a very picturesque setting for your vacation.
