Crovie was originally settled by families driven out of their inland crofts and is simply a line of houses perched on a beach. They came here originally to fish using the boats of the landlord, but eventually they built their own boats and established their own fishing industry until 1953. It is surrounded by high cliffs and makes the ideal setting for anyone wanting to explore the neighbouring towns and villages. From Crovie, you can look across Gamrie Bay to the village of Gardenstown. You cannot bring your car into the village, as it is the only one in Britain where it is not possible to drive through the village. There is one road and that is mainly a footpath in front of the houses.
