Fraserburgh Beach looking over Tiger Hill - photograph © Gillian Thomson Do not let your first impressions of the town of Fraserburgh impede your visit here, there is much to be found and done around. The town is very reliant on the fishing industry and very friendly local people will always find the time for a chat, very useful if you want a ground roots promotion of the area.

Fraserburgh's lighthouse in 1787, was the first ever to be built in Scotland by the Northern Lighthouse Trustees and is situated on the site of the old Fraserburgh Castle, which was built in the 16th century. The Lighthouse is now a museum with its 100 year old equipment still in working order and other related artefacts are also on show.

Fraserburgh The town's mercat cross is the only cross in Scotland to have the royal arms of both the old Kingdom of Scotland and that of the United Kingdom, under James the 6th of Scotland and 1st of England.

In 1556, an English ship called the Edward Bonaventure, which was carrying the first ever Russian ambassador to the English Court, together with a vast array of furs and jewels was wrecked here.

Although the ambassador was saved, it took 26 days for the news to reach London, which gave the locals all the time they needed to recover the cargo and hide it. Queen Mary of England even sought permission from Scotland for her troops to search the area, but to no avail!

It is our goal to provide only the most accurate and useful information on Fraserburgh. If you feel we have overlooked an important part of the area, or have included errors such as spelling mistakes or typing errors, please do not hesitate to let us know here.
