Gardenstown Travel Guide

Temporary photograph of a Scottish Thistle till we obtain a picture of Gardenstown The picturesque village of Gardenstown in Gamrie Bay that is surrounded by majestic cliffs and rolling farmland. From here you can get a commanding view of the Moray Firth. It is a lively fishing village where you can see the fishermen hard at work. You might even get to go out on a fishing trip with them for the ultimate thrill while on vacation. Although the village itself dates back to 1720, there is evidence that it was settled long before this. The ruins of St. John’s Chapel stand as a testament to the defeat of the Danes during a Norse raid.

Although the main economy of Gardenstown stems from fishing, this is a popular tourist destination. It is located within close proximity of several golf courses and a return to the village after a day on the course offers a peaceful setting for visitors to enjoy the evening. It is said that about one-third of the marine life in the world can be found in this area. Enjoy the sounds of the sea smashing against the cliffs and the sound of the sea birds as you take a walk through the town. There is also a sandy beach where you can enjoy swimming in the ocean or relaxing in the sun.

If you want to explore this area of Scotland, Gardenstown is the prefect location to choose as your base. All the villages here are close by and you can get to see many tourist attractions during your vacation. Visit the Shakespearean castle of Cawdor Castle, which is open to the public from May to October. The sight of this castle will bring back memories of fairytale castles you remember from the books of your childhood.

Troup Head is well known for its sea bird colonies, which include puffins. Take a trip to the fishing village of Macduff for a boat ride along the coast. A ten-minute walk from Seatown will take you to the picturesque Bay of Crovie and from there you can take the Coastal Trail to the village of Pennan.

Enjoy visiting castle ruins, such as that of Huntly, Fyvie, Delgatie and Tolquhon. When you are in Gardenstown, you are also in close proximity to many distilleries famous for their Scottish malt whisky and you can tour the facilities and taste the fine results.

Stay in a traditional fisherman’s cottage for your accommodations or an 18th century farmhouse. Explore the art galleries in Gardenstown, which has become an artist’s retreat area. You might just be able to take in some weekend classes offered by renowned artists from all over the UK that come here to give classes. Whatever you do while in Gardenstown, you are sure to make memories that will last you a lifetime.
