Portgordon Travel Guide

Portgordon Harbour The fishing village of Portgordon was named after the 4th Duke of Gordon in 1797. Historically it consists of two distinct parts, namely Port Gordon itself and Port Tannachy, the western part of the present village. A long beach of sand and shingle stretches west along the coast from Tannachy to the mouth of the River Spey.

There are attractive walks through the Speymouth Forest, where the watchful eye may glimpse roe deer, the shy red squirrel and if you are really lucky, the elusive pine martin, with grouse and caperchaillie on the nearby moorland. The walk to Whiteash Hill near Fochabers affords unrivalled views of the whole district.
