Thomas Telford's bridge at Invermoriston Invermoriston is a village in the Highlands of Scotland about 8 miles from Fort Augustus. You won’t have any difficulty finding this destination because it is located on the A82 road at the intersection of A82 and A887. It is nestled on the shores of the famous Loch Ness in the heart of the spectacular beauty of the Great Glen. Its strategic location in the heart of the Highlands makes it the ideal location to choose as your base of operations when touring the area.

When you come to Invermoriston, you have to visit the Glen Affric. This is an old Gaelic word for "water goddess" and is a hidden valley where you will be able to see some of the ancient Caledonian Scots Forest. There are many nature trails here and places for picnics, so the whole family can have an enjoyable day in the fresh air. Visit Castle Urquhart, the impressive ruins of a 16th century castle. You certainly have to pay a visit to the Loch Ness Exhibition Centre and learn all about Nessie. Who knows? You just might get a glimpse of this famous monster.

Castle Urquhart Travel back from Invermoriston through Fort Augustus and around the mouth of Loch Ness to the Falls of Foyers. Here you will find a 100 foot gorge made famous in the poetry of Robert Burns. The road to this site, the B862, was once the military road used by General Wade in the 18th century.

Just a short distance from Invermoriston you will find Invergarry, a small village that is home to the ruins of Glengarry Castle. There are beautiful forest trails where you can see the beauties of nature and the wildlife of the area in their natural habitat. Only 15 minutes away, the whole family will enjoy the thrills of the Great Glen Water Park and the Monster activities, such as white water rafting, mountain biking, abseiling and many more land and water based activities.

Glenfinnan Monument Take time out to explore the Glenfinnan Monument and the exhibit detailing the beginnings of the rebellion staged by Bonnie Prince Charlie. Glenmoriston is a picturesque town where you can see such attractions as Charlie’s Cave, Roderick Mackenzie’s cairn and Finlay Munro’s Footprints.

The wealth of attractions in the area means that there is no lack of places where you can get a room for the night or even book a cottage for the week. Enjoy home cooking in a family style restaurant or a small tearoom. There is a pub in every village where you will be treated like a long-lost son or daughter and you will make friends that will last a lifetime.
