Nethy Bridge The pleasant village of Nethy Bridge is a quiet alternative skiing base to Aviemore. In the centre of the Cairngorms National park and sitting on the border of the old Caledonian forest, Nethy is a picturesque village in the Spey Valley offering golf and various outdoor activities including horse riding and beautiful walks through the forests, where you may chance upon some of the rarest wildlife in Scotland.

This area is the last stronghold for the caperchaille, Scotland's largest game bird and the pine martin, red squirrel and of course, wild cat. Some say they have seen a larger feline animal in the area that cleverly remains elusive to most, that is if you don't count sheep which seem to be a delicacy for them!

The Bridge of Nethy Nearby is Loch Garten which forms part of the Abernethy Forest RSPB Reserve. It is home from home for the Osprey which rear their young every year in Scotland before returning to Africa. Beside the loch is the Osprey Centre where you can learn more about the birds and other species with informative displays including close circuit television and the use of binoculars.

Wildlife is in abundance in the Badenoch and Strathspey, a stronghold for many rare species of insects, birds, mammals and plants, including the Caledonian forest that once covered all of Scotland.

This has helped the area become the Cairngorms National Nature Reserve, which covers some 100 square miles, incorporating parts owned by the Scottish Natural Heritage and private estates (Rothiemurchus, Glenfeshie, GlenAvon and Mar Lodge).

Fishing is available on the River Spey and at numerous nearby trout lochs.

'Nethy Bridge was used on a few occasions for filming Monarch of the Glen'.
