Crieff is the main town of Strathearn, lying on the southern edge of the Scottish Highlands.
It is a long founded holiday resort and the second largest town in
Perthshire with a population of almost 6000.
The town rises up the slopes of the Knock, a wooded hillside above, and down to the river Earn below. James Square with its fountain dedicated to the Murrays of Ochtertyre marks the centre of the town. Ochtertyre estate itself is located about a mile outside of the town, where the grand 18
th century mansion house looks out over the beautiful designed landscape including Loch Monzievaird. There are a number of tourist attractions in the town including the home of Famous Grouse Whisky at Scotland's oldest distillery - Glenturret.
The town was once an ancient cattle market and frontier post where Highlanders would come for the great cattle trysts. Cattle were driven from all over the north of Scotland to be sold to lowland buyers. Famous visitors include

Robert Burns and many others from
Scotland's colourful history.
